In spring 2018, three artist friends were seeking some of that inspiration and drive which comes from a collaboration with their peers.

They came up with the Face to Face project and over the course of a year, a total of 30 artists became involved, gaining inspiration from a central theme—Penda, Anglo-Saxon King of Mercia—but also, most importantly, directly from each other: literally 'face-to-face’.

Written to coincide with the project’s concluding exhibition, this publication charts the stories which are interwoven throughout the project. It offers both an insight into how artists approach a challenge and also a study into what happens when creative people work together.
