Jill is a young, idealistic planning officer. After only six months at Woodleigh Council, the downbeat attitude of her colleagues is having a dispiriting effect on her. Then into the council offices, and into her life, walks a fireman.
 
Taking a break from active duties, Simon is covering the role of fire prevention officer. Initially bitter that he will no longer be one of the lads on the watch, he quickly realises that there are advantages to not being tied to a station. There’s a freedom to the job that he hasn’t had in over fifteen years, but what is going to replace the adrenaline rush of the call-outs and the excitement of putting out fires?
 
Simon’s appearance on the scene disrupts the mundane routine of the planning department and causes Jill’s world to ignite.
