Keith Jarvis first learned to fly on a Tiger Moth at Rochester in 1960. In the Royal Air Force he completed two tours of duty on the Avro Shackleton. He qualified as a flying instructor in 1972 and taught on many types of aircraft, including the Jet Provost and Chipmunk. One of his former students tried to teach him to fly a Whirlwind helicopter — he wasn’t very good at it! He subsequently flew as an instructor for British Aerospace in the Middle East and, in retirement, flew on the Air Cadet Air Experience Flights. He finally hung up his flying helmet in 2010 having flown almost 10,000 hours.
